Aston Villa are looking at Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster as a potential replacement for Mbwana Samatta, according to The Mirror.

It has been reported that Villa are among the clubs who are interested in signing Brewster from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Samatta looks to be on his way out of the Villans, with The Daily Mail reporting that the 27-year-old Tanzania international striker is in Turkey to complete a move to Fenerbahce.

Villa’s reported interest in Brewster is already known, with The Star reporting earlier this month that Dean Smith’s side want the striker, as covered by HITC Sport, but, according to the new report in The Mirror, it seems that they are looking at the 20-year-old as a potential replacement for Samatta.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Villa recently signed Ollie Watkins from Brentford, and he will be main striker for the Villans this season.

Samatta struggled to make an impact at Villa Park following his move from Genk in January 2020, as he scored just one goal in 14 Premier League matches, according to WhoScored.

Brewster scored 11 goals in 22 Championship matches for Swansea City during his loan spell at the Welsh club during the second half of last season, according to WhoScored, and the 20-year-old – described as a “big talent” by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on BBC Sport in September 2020 – is ready to make the step-up to the Premier League and would be a good option for Smith.
