Aston Villa have made some very decent signings this summer.
The Villans have welcomed the likes of Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore to Bodymoor Heath but, with 11 days left in the transfer window, there’s time for further reinforcements.
And if one rumour is true, their next target is very exciting.
According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Chelsea attacking midfielder Ross Barkley to the club.
The Blues want any loan deal to include Villa paying the entirety of his £120,000-a-week salary but, if this comes off, it could be great.
The prospect of having Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Barkley feeding Watkins is so very exciting.
His stock has fallen somewhat in recent years, but the England international is still only 26 and Romelu Lukaku’s former comments on him indicate that he’s a class act, in terms of talent.
Speaking to Everton TV in 2016, Lukaku, now at Inter Milan, said: “It’s a blessing to play next to Ross Barkley. Hopefully we can keep doing a good job for together for the team by scoring a lot of goals and getting plenty of assists as well.”
Somebody like Barkley could also be a ‘blessing’ to Watkins ahead of his first season in the Premier League and what a fascinating prospect it’d be to see him play under Dean Smith this season.
