Sunderland have been working on a deal to sign Ross McCormack from Aston Villa for much of the season so far.

According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland have been told that they will have to pay £4 million for Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack.

Sunderland have been chasing McCormack for much of the summer so far, but remain keener on a loan deal.

However, it seems that Villa are so desperate to offload McCormack permanently that they have halved their asking price for the forward.

Villa initially told Sunderland that they would have to pay £8 million to land McCormack, according to the Northern Echo, but this asking price has quickly dropped.

Whether Sunderland will now be more tempted to make a move for McCormack remains to be seen, but he could represent value for money.

McCormack has badly struggled since moving to Villa, and needs to re-find his top form.

However, if Sunderland could get him back to his best, then he could become a very valuable option.

McCormack has previously been a fearsome option at Championship level, and has the ability to be a leading marksman in the second tier.
