Aston Villa have been linked with Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso in recent days.

According to TyC Sports, the Villans have made ‘informal enquiries’ over the Tottenham Hotspur loanee.

The Argentine outlet – via Sport Witness – claims Villa have been following Lo Celso for a ‘long time’.

And the Villans have apparently ‘assured they will make a formal offer’ to buy him.

Unai Emery managed the 27-year-old at Villarreal – where he remains on loan – and Paris Saint-Germain.

Lo Celso joined the La Liga side on loan in January 2022 and his stay there was extended last summer.

The midfielder is set to return to Spurs at the end of the season, with his contract running until 2024.

However, his future is uncertain, with Tottenham still looking for a new permanent manager.

A new head coach could potentially want to take a closer look at Lo Celso before deciding on his future.

Our view

If Spurs are happy to sell and Villa make their move, they’d be getting themselves a top-quality player.

For Lo Celso, it hasn’t really worked out at Tottenham.

Then again, it didn’t work out there for two of the best managers in the world either.

Lo Celso has done well at Villarreal, with Emery having helped reinvigorate his career.

The Villa boss knows the player well and it looks as though he could be available this summer.

Lo Celso is a signing who could take Villa to the next level.

Meanwhile, Spurs could well cash in as they look to overhaul their squad.

With that in mind, speculation linking Lo Celso and Villa makes sense.

The playmaker has also received huge praise from some of his peers.

Villarreal goalkeeper and fellow Argentine Geronimo Rulli gave Lo Celso some very high praise when he first joined.

Speaking to Super Deporte, Rulli said: “He gives us an option as a team.

“He improves us, and I won’t be surprising many by saying that he is one of the best players in the world.

“I know him well as a player and as a person, so I hope he does very well.”
