According to a report from the Daily Mail’s live transfer feed (31/1; 18:18), Aston Villa have made a late move to try and sign Swansea City midfielder Leroy Fer, but face competition from Lille.

The Villans have already made one signing on deadline day, with Tyrone Mings joining on loan from Bournemouth. And it appears that Dean Smith is hoping to get another signing through the door before the deadline.

The Daily Mail reports on their live transfer feed (31/1; 18:18) that Swans skipper Fer has been the subject of a late bid from their Championship rivals.

Fer has enjoyed a good season as part of Graham Potter’s side, making 24 appearances in the second tier, scoring once and providing two assists. It would be a blow for Swansea to lose their £8 million signing (via BBC Sport), especially if he heads to one of their divisional rivals.

Although John McGinn has been a fantastic signing for Villa, they appear to need greater quality in the middle of the park. And Smith would arguably be wise to look at midfield options who would be able to give the defence more support.

If Fer joins, he could perhaps provide that. But it appears that they still need to convince Swansea into selling their skipper in the final hours of the window.
