Alberto Moreno was reportedly offered the chance to stay in the Premier League with Aston Villa before he returned to La Liga with Villarreal.

If you listen quietly, you’ll hear all the Aston Villa fans in Britain breathe a sigh of relief in unison.
According to ESPN, the Premier League newcomers expressed an interest in signing Alberto Moreno when his Liverpool contract expired. But they might have dodged a bullet with the Spanish left-back returning to Spain with Villarreal, five years after he swapped Sevilla for Anfield in a £12 million deal.
So far, Aston Villa’s transfer business looks very promising indeed.

Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause and Anwar El-Ghazi have been snapped up permanently after impressive loan spells while Wesley Moraes and Jota should add real quality to Dean Smith’s squad.
Moreno, however, would have arrived after making just two Premier League appearances in 2018/19. That is how little Jurgen Klopp came to trust him at Liverpool.
Moreno started well in England with his swashbuckling style and affable attitude winning him plenty of admirers. But it didn’t take long for his defensive deficiencies to become glaringly obvious. Moreno will always be remembered by some Liverpool fans as the man who cost them the 2016 Europa League title and it’s telling that he barely had a look in after that horror night in Basel.
Matt Targett looks like a far more sensible signing – even if he was £15 million more expensive.
