Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been promised a huge budget at Aston Villa as he prepares to become Dean Smith’s replacement.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that Gerrard will be given a massive fund to spent in the January transfer window.

Owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have plenty of money behind them are prepared to back Gerrard immediately with new signings.

Villa splashed the cash on Emi Buendia, Danny Ings and Leon Bailey over the summer, but will now give Gerrard even more.

Who knows, maybe Gerrard even tries to raid Rangers for a couple of signings?

Gerrard’s Rangers exit will earn him huge money at Villa

The report adds that Gerrard will become the highest paid manager in Aston Villa history once his move is done.

More than Dean Smith, more than Steve Bruce, Roberto Di Matteo, Tim Sherwood, Paul Lambert, Alex McLeish, Martin O’Neill and many more.

That’s a major show of faith from Villa, who have quickly made it clear that Gerrard was their man and a record-breaking deal shows that.

Some may be surprised that Gerrard is walking away from Rangers, but Christian Purslow is a key factor here.

It’s noted that Gerrard and Villa chief executive Purslow have a great relationship from their time together at Liverpool.

Purslow will back Gerrard in the long term, and that means Rangers are set to lose their manager – something they can’t have expected a week ago.
