Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard wants to secure the services of Aaron Hickey, having wanted to sign the defender for Ibrox club Rangers, according to The Daily Record.

The report has claimed that Villa manager Gerrard is considering a bid for Bologna full-back Hickey in the January transfer window.

Chelsea and AC Milan are also keen on the Scottish teenager.

Villa manager Gerrard is now considering making a bid for Hickey.

Previous Steven Gerrard interest in Aaron Hickey

As we covered here on HITC Sport, Gerrard reportedly wanted to sign Hickey when he was in charge of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

The Glasgow Evening Times reported in July 2020 that Rangers were among a number of clubs who were tracking Hickey, then at Hearts.

Gerrard, now the Villa boss, was then the manager of Rangers.

Aston Villa transfer possible?

In our opinion, there is a chance that Hickey – described by former Heart and Midlothian manager Daniel Stendel as “an extraordinary talent” who is “like Philipp Lahm” in The Scottish Sun in August 2020 – could end up playing for Villa.

Bologna could be tempted to cash in on the youngster if they get a decent offer.

We know that Villa are a rich club, and the salary they could offer will be tempting to the 19-year-old full-back.

Hickey, who can play as a left-winger or as a left-back, has made 18 starts and one substitute appearance in Serie A so far this season.

The former Hearts youngster has scored four goals in those games.
