Corey Blackett-Taylor has disclosed that both Micah Richards and Tommy Elphick gave him words of encouragement before he went on to make his Aston Villa debut against Huddersfield Town earlier this month, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Steve Bruce’s men suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Terriers, but there was a reason for the Villans supporters to be optimistic following the game as the 19-year-old came on to make his professional debut during the latter stages of the contest.

And the attacker explained what advice the two experienced defenders – who both remained unused substitutes for the contest at the John Smith’s Stadium – handed him before he went on in the 87th minute.

“I got a few words of encouragement from Micah Richards and Tommy Elphick who told me ‘Just do what you do in training and try and create an impact’ and the gaffer told me to just go out there and enjoy it. That gave me more confidence,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“Coming on was a good feeling. It was something I’d always dreamt of doing and I’d managed to do it.”

While he did not feature in the following game against Sheffield Wednesday, Bruce showed a tremendous amount of faith in him by including him on the bench once again.

And he will be hoping that his increased involvement in the matchday squads sees him get several more minutes before the curtain comes down on the campaign.

Certainly, with Villa in mid-table and seemingly in little danger of getting dragged into the relegation scrap while also having little chance of pushing for the top six, it would make sense for Taylor to get a few more chances ahead of next season.
