The Villa Park academy ace has impressed on loan at the Robins and scored his first career goal on Tuesday night.
Aston Villa loanee Jake Doyle-Hayes has rejoiced in getting his first career goal as he scored for Cheltenham Town in their 3-2 League Two win over Bradford City at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Tuesday night (Cheltenham website).
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder, who has been thoroughly impressive for the Robins since his loan switch from Villa Park, netted the second goal for Michael Duff’s side in the evening fixture at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium.
After Jermaine Anderson opened the scoring for the Bantams and Gavin Reilly levelled for Cheltenham, Doyle-Hayes weighed in with a superb volley from Ben Tozer’s long throw to give the hosts the lead.
Ben Richards-Everton then nodded in Harry Pritchard’s free kick to make it 2-2 before Tozer headed home from Chris Hussey’s free kick to restore Cheltenham’s lead, which this time they would not relinquish, and climbed to third in the table.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling at home in front of the fans as well,” Doyle-Hayes told the Cheltenham website. “My first goal and it was something to be proud of I suppose. I’m really happy that we won as well. It’s all about the three points.”
Doyle-Hayes came through the ranks at Villa, making his senior debut in the 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup in August 2017, and then penned a new contract, after which he continued to progress and develop with the Under-23s.
He spent the second half of last season at another fourth-tier side in Cambridge United, where he played under former assistant coach Colin Calderwood, and is with Cheltenham for the 2019-20 season.
