Aston Villa are preparing to face Bolton Wanderers on Friday.

Aston Villa lost 1-0 at Queens Park Rangers on Friday night, meaning Dean Smith has now lost two in a row – and it’s another Friday encounter this week as Villa will host Bolton Wanderers at Villa Park.
Smith’s reign started so well with a 1-0 win over Swansea City, but defeats to Norwich City and QPR have shown that the former Brentford boss has plenty of work to do.
Villa were in training earlier today ahead of the game, and Smith will have been getting to know his players better; after all, he is still learning about the players at his disposal.
Earlier today, Villa posted a video to Twitter from the club’s training session, and it featured defender Alan Hutton scoring a superb volley from a right-wing cross.
The Scot doesn’t score many, so seeing him smash home such an impressive strike – even in training – was a surprise for many Villa supporters.
A couple of Villa fans spotted something else though; that Hutton was playing at left back in training, a possible hint that Smith is trying him out there as a potential replacement for Neil Taylor.
Hutton played in that role for parts of last season, and despite playing at right back against QPR, Hutton may be in line to play at left back against Bolton – though, as noted above, some fans just want to see him dropped rather than given a new role in the Villa back four.
