Remi Garde’s second game in charge saw his side fall to a dismal 4-0 defeat at Goodison Park.
Brad Guzan 6.5/10 – Arguably could have done better on Ross Barkley’s 17th-minute opener but prevented the scoreline from looking much worse with a handful of smart saves.
Alan Hutton 6/10 – Wasn’t given too much trouble at the back, as the home side looked to target Villa’s left flank, but he offered nothing going forward.
Micah Richards 5/10 – A rough afternoon for the team captain, as he was exposed on several occasions by both the pace of Everton’s attack and Romelu Lukaku’s physicality.
Ciaran Clark 4.5/10 – Like Richards, the Republic of Ireland international struggled to deal with the pace and power of Lukaku and was too often pulled out of position.
Kieran Richardson 3/10 – Jordan Amavi’s absence was made all too apparent, as his replacement proved incapable of dealing with Gerard Deulofeu and Seamus Coleman.
Ashley Westwood 6/10 – Kept things neat and simple in possession but Villa need more than that to escape their current predicament.
Idrissa Gana 4/10 – Replaced at the break after a dismal first half saw him overrun in the centre of the park.
Jordan Veretout 5/10 – Showed a few flashes of inspiration in the second half after struggling through the opening 45 minutes but still seems too hesitant when on the ball.
Carles Gil 4.5/10 – Frequent failure to track back hurt the visitors, as he lasted less than hour before being brought off.
Jack Grealish 4/10 – Brought back into the line-up for Scott Sinclair but was invisible for much of his time on the pitch.
Jordan Ayew 6/10 – Created two decent chances in the second half but was otherwise starved of service. Continues to impress with his work rate, though.
SUBSTITUTES
Carlos Sanchez (Gana 46) 6.5/10 – Added some much needed bite in the middle and showed some decent touches on the ball. Should be a regular starter going forward given the subpar performances of his fellow midfielders.
Rudy Gestede (Gil 56) 5.5/10 – Gave Villa an aerial presence up top but was hard for him to make a real difference when nothing was being created behind him.
Charles N’Zogbia (Grealish 73) 5/10 – Did nothing of note in his 18-minute cameo.
