Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has denied reports suggesting that the club are interested in the signature of Chesterfield United striker Ched Evans.

In light of the news this week regarding Evans criminal retrial he is now clear to continue his football career with the League One side.

But it was then reported that Villa were interested in making a move to bring Evans to the club. The Daily Mail reported that Aston Villa were among several teams interested in his signature.

But the club’s owner Xia has responded to a question regarding his potential signature on Twitter today and confirmed there is no substance to the rumour that Villa could make a move to sign him:

27-year-old Evans has scored four goals in eight appearances for the Spireites since making his return to the professional game in the summer. He has not played since September however, as he focused on his retrial and recovered from a heel injury.

In his last full season in the game Evans scored an impressive 35 goals in 42 appearances at Sheffield United.

But it appears Aston Villa are not interested in rolling the dice on the Welsh international.
