Aston Villa are in serious financial trouble, with the club having to raise funds quickly this summer.

Tony Xia, Owner of Aston Villa looks on ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Sunderland at Villa Park on November 21, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia is sure to regret two of his tweets from 2017, with his side in such financial trouble.

Xia posted soon after taking charge at Villa that he ‘wasn’t bothered by FFP issues’ and challenged a journalist who suggested that the claret and blues were heading for trouble for spending overly lavishly.

However, it has turned out that Xia should have had more concerns over Villa’s spending.

The claret and blues are currently in serious financial trouble, with a fire-sale expected this summer.

Villa’s failure to win the play off final has caused huge concerns, with the future of the club now in considerable doubt.

Dr Tony Xia, Chairman of Aston Villa walks the pitch during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Birmingham City at Villa Park on April 23, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Villa will have to raise serious funds over the coming weeks, to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

The likes of Jack Grealish, Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan are all expected to leave, with John Terry already heading out of the door at Villa Park.

And there could be further departures, with Villa seemingly willing to listen to offers for almost every player at the club.
