Aston Villa are currently on the hunt for a new sporting director. The club’s former man in the role was Hendrik Almstadt, but he stepped down in July following a poor campaign at Villa Park with some bad moves in the transfer market.
The club have been looking for someone to take over the role, with the likes of Andy Townsend and Steve Round both mentioned this summer.

Now the club’s new owner Dr Tony Xia has confirmed on his official Twitter account when the new director of football will start work at the club, tweeting:
It seems that the person set to take the role is currently employed at another club, which might rule out Steve Round, who was linked by Sky Sports earlier this week.
But regardless of who does get the job it seems an odd time to finalise it.
Steve Round
The new director will take over just as the transfer window shuts meaning they will have little input to any new signings.
Aston Villa are currently 12 in the Championship after winning, losing and drawing their opening three games of the season.
