Ajax will reportedly look to sign Aston Villa outcast Anwar El Ghazi should Manchester United manage to bring star attacker Antony to the Premier League, with the Red Devils intent on landing the Brazilian forward.

According to De Telegraaf, the Dutch champions have made El Ghazi a target in the event that United sign Antony in the final week of the transfer window, with Erik Ten Hag’s side recently having a reported €90m (£75m) offer rejected by Ajax for the South American prospect.

United are expected to make an improved bid for Antony, and as a result, El Ghazi has been viewed by Ajax as a potential replacement for the Brazilian international, with PSV Eindhoven also reportedly interested in the Villa outcast as their star winger, Cody Gakpo, is also linked with a move to the Premier League.

El Ghazi is yet to make a Premier League squad this season with Steven Gerrard not a fan of the Dutch international in the slightest as the winger was loaned out to Everton in January, and this summer, Villa have been looking to offload the forward to no great success.

However, the last few days have seen a boom in interest in El Ghazi, with PSV entering the race for the former LOSC Lille star and Ajax, the club the winger came through at, now also interested in the forward, with the Dutch giants clearly seeing something in the Villa outcast.

Indeed, a move back to the Netherlands with either Ajax or PSV would be a huge result for El Ghazi, who will effectively go from being frozen out in a mid-table Premier League side to signing for one of the biggest clubs in his homeland and potentially playing European football.

El Ghazi has had bright moments in the Premier League with Villa, but it is clear that the winger’s career under Gerrard will never reach the same heights the attacker experienced under Dean Smith, and as a result, signing for Ajax or even PSV would be a huge result for the forward.

After all, El Ghazi is more than good enough to play regularly for a top side such as Ajax, and with the 2022 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the attacker could win a spot in the Netherlands squad should he become a regular for the Dutch giants.
