Aston Villa have joined the battle sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara as Steven Gerrard attempts to bring in a new midfielder.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has taken to Twitter to claim that Kamara is on Villa’s wish list in the final days of the January transfer window.
Villa boss Gerrard is desperate to bring in another midfielder with Marvelous Nakamba now out with a long-term injury.
Despite having the likes of Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Sanson, Gerrard want another midfielder.
Juventus ace Rodrigo Bentancur appears to be the main target, but Romano claims Kamara is on the radar too.
Kamara, 22, was born in Marseille and has been coming up through the ranks of his hometown club since the age of five.
Now with almost 150 first-team appearances to his name, Kamara has excelled for the Ligue 1 side, playing as a central defender or holding midfield player, with his versatility very appealing.
Branded a ‘phenomenon’ by former Marseille teammate Rolando, Kamara is very highly rated over in France.
The problem for Marseille is that Kamara’s contract expires this summer and he is now intending to walk away.

Villa may now sense an opportunity to swoop in and offer Marseille a cut-price deal for Kamara, tempting them into selling now before he leaves this summer.
Villa won’t have an easy run at signing Kamara though, because a number of other Premier League clubs want him too.
Eddie Howe is understood to want Kamara at Newcastle United, whilst Leeds United are also keen. When Kamara was coming through at Marseille, now Leeds-boss Marcelo Bielsa was their first-team manager.
Kamara may be tempted to wait until he becomes a free agent before deciding his next move, but you can’t exactly blame Villa for trying.
