Leeds United and Aston Villa lock horns in the Championship this Sunday in a clash between two of the league’s top sides at Elland Road.

The Whites have been in the upper echelons of the table for most of the season but inconsistent form and poor finishing has seen them slip to three points adrift of the top two.

Villa, meanwhile, had a fairly lacklustre season up until March, when they embarked on a club-record run of 10 consecutive wins that has seen them surge into playoff contention.

Monday’s 1-0 win over Millwall guaranteed a top six place for Dean Smith’s charges, who were 14th in the table just a few months ago and looked very much as if their season would be petering out.

Indeed, there is a possibility that the two sides playing at Elland Road this weekend could meet once again in the playoffs, depending on how the next two fixtures go.

Villa defender Neil Taylor banged the drum ahead of the game, suggesting Leeds may well be fearing the prospect of coming up against a side with a winning streak like Sunday’s visitors.

“I am sure if we went into a game with a team who have won 10 games in a row, you would fear them a little bit because you know what they are capable of,” the Wales Euro 2016 ace, who starred in all six tournament games, is quoted by the Daily Star as saying.

Taylor also hoped Villa could emulate what Fulham did last season, adding: “People know what we are capable of at the minute. I suppose it is a bit like Fulham last season. That momentum going into the playoffs can be quite big.”
