Aston Villa are under pressure to move quickly for Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow now, given Rafael Benitez stance.

The Northern Echo suggest that Newcastle are only willing to let one goalkeeper leave in January, as they don’t want to leave themselves short of options.

With Newcastle having Darlow, Rob Elliott and Freddie Woodman all up for grabs, Villa now need to act fast.

Elliott and Woodman both have interest in them, and Villa will not want a team to get either of the pair before they have wrapped up a deal for Darlow.

The Sun claim that Villa are keen to bring in Darlow, and signing a goalkeeper is surely one of Dean Smith’s main priorities.

Villa’s current first choice Orjan Nyland has looked very shaky, and Darlow would be a serious upgrade.

But the claret and blues need to be making sure that they get Darlow’s deal sorted early on in January, as they may not have time to negotiate.
