Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has indicated that midfielder Marvelous Nakamba faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a knee injury.
Villa beat Norwich without Nakamba
Villa went away to Norwich City on Tuesday night, taking on their former manager Dean Smith in the process.
Jacob Ramsey gave Villa the lead before Ollie Watkins secured a 2-0 win for Villa, continuing Steven Gerrard’s fine start.
Gerrard had to tinker with his side a little though, given that midfielder Nakamba wasn’t available.
Nakamba picked up a knee injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Liverpool and may now face a spell on the sidelines.
Gerrard offers update
Nakamba has been a surprise success story of the Gerrard era so far, thriving in the Villa midfield.
The Zimbabwean star was in and out under Dean Smith but seemingly has a manager who really rates him in Gerrard.
Sadly, it seems that Nakamba will be missing for a while now after that injury.
Gerrard has now told the Birmingham Mail that a ‘serious chat’ will be had today in order to discuss Nakamba’s situation.

Gerrard called the injury ‘serious’ and believes Nakamba will be missing for a ‘number of months’, with a decision coming today on the next course of action.
“The best way to put it is that we’ve had confirmation that he has got a knee injury,” said Gerrard. “We’re really going to have a serious chat tomorrow in terms of whether we want him to have surgery or whether we’ll manage the injury conservatively. We’ll make that decision in the next 24 hours but he’s certainly going to be missing for some time because it’s a serious injury.”
“We need to now make the best decision which is really frustrating and disappointing because he has been outstanding but we’ll give him every bit of support and care to get him back as safe as possible. We’ve got a rough idea but I don’t want to get wrong and I don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on the medical staff but he’ll certainly be missing for a number of months,” he added.
