Gardner performed brilliantly against Reading in midweek and what is often forgot about him, in comparison to both Jedinak and Westwood, is that he has the most recent Championship experience due to loan spells at Nottingham Forest.

The academy graduate has looked more committed and suited to the Championship then his midfield rivals so far this season and for now must be a starter in Steve Bruce’s team.
Hopefully he gets the start today and can again thrive against the Cottagers.
