Aston Villa need a goalkeeper. Newcastle can help.

Aston Villa’s promotion hopes risk being derailed by their troubling goalkeeping situation.

Orjan Nyland conceded five goals last night against Nottingham Forest in a remarkable game which finished 5-5.

Villa need to get to January first, and when the transfer window does open, they should be targeting a move for Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman.

The Chronicle reports Woodman is hoping to secure a loan move so he can play regularly.

He is currently just a back-up at Newcastle and as an England under-20 World Cup winner, playing regular football is crucial to his development.

The Chronicle‘s report claims Leeds United have already enquired over signing Woodman in January.

Villa are hoping to beat Leeds to promotion at the end of the season and entering the race for Woodman could be the ideal solution.

While there is an element of a gamble, Woodman is worth taking a chance on. He could fit in nicely as part of a side brimming with young talent, led by Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish.

He has already been out on loan four times in his career, most recently at Aberdeen.

Villa must offer him the chance to sign on loan and play a major role in their promotion push and become their new number one.
