Aston Villa are reportedly looking to sign Tom Heaton.

Aston Villa are closing in on a move for goalkeeper Tom Heaton, The Mirror report.
Heaton is a goalkeeper who is proven at Premier League level and will literally give the club a safe pair of hands at a key position.
For play-off hero Jed Steer it is a blow, but it’s no disaster.
Steer did not enter last season as number one in the Championship.
To be even in the conversation to be number one for a club in the Premier League is a positive step.
Signing Heaton as a competitor can be a positive for Steer.
The worst thing for Steer now could be to be thrown into the Premier League, and have his reputation ruined with a few mistakes.

Getting to learn from 33-year-old Heaton, who has represented England, can be a positive step for Heaton.
Heaton may not be a long term solution for Villa, just a stop gap.
This is far better for Steer than if Villa spent big on Jack Butland, who is also 26.
When Heaton is ready to step aside, if he applies himself as a back-up, an even better and improved Steer may be ready to take over.
