The Villans got their first Premier League points on board by beating Everton at Villa Park and Wesley got his first goal for Dean Smith’s side.

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has praised teammate Wesley Moraes for opening his account with the Premier League club in Friday night’s 2-0 win over Everton at Villa Park (The Guardian).
The Brazilian drew first blood against the Toffees with his first goal since his summer move from Club Brugge, rifling home a close-range effort from Jota’s incisive pass in the 21st minute.
Wesley, Villa’s club record signing, came under criticism following the newly promoted team’s defeats in the top flight to Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth, with Dean Smith issuing a scathing response in his press conference ahead of the game against Marco Silva’s side.
“Firmino. Has he scored yet?” the Villa boss is quoted by the Birmingham Mail as saying. “Mo Salah’s got one… what are we coming to when we’re making judgements on players after two matches?”

Speaking after the game at Villa Park, in which Anwar El Ghazi also netted against the Merseyside outfit, Mings said it was good for Wesley to finally break his duck and admitted his teammate “does that to me” often on the training ground.
“It was probably important for him [to score],” the centre-back is quoted by The Guardian as saying after being fielded a question about criticism of Wesley. “Obviously you want to get a goal as quickly as possible, as a striker, and I think it’ll do him the world of good. He does that to me in training all the time.”
Up next for Villa is their Carabao Cup trip to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night before heading to Selhurst Park at the weekend to face Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.
