Aston Villa midfielder Tom Carroll has revealed that Luka Modric is the best player he played with during his time at Tottenham.

The 26-year-old, who came through the ranks at White Hart Lane and played there for a seven-year period, labelled Modric as a ‘ridiculous’ player.

It won’t surprise many that Carroll has picked Modric given the underrated figure he is in the middle of the park and the fact that he plays in his position.

Carroll had the likes of powerhouse Gareth Bale and goal machine Harry Kane to choose from, but there was only one name he mentioned.

“I absolutely loved training with Luka Modric. He was the man,” Carroll told Villa’s official website. “In training, he was ridiculous – absolutely incredible. You couldn’t get near him.

“Watching him, I always knew he was going to go on and become one of the best in the world. The way he saw things that others didn’t really struck me. You’d try things like ‘oh I’ve got him on his left foot now’ and then he’d hit a stunning pass with the outside of the right foot into pinpoint position. What a player!”

If truth be told, his goal tally and assists tally don’t really measure up to the world class player he is because he has the ability to run any game without any sweat.

Since leaving Spurs, Modric has gone on to enjoy great success at La Liga giants Real Madrid, although, they are not enjoying the best of campaigns this term.

During his time in Spain, he has won four Champions League trophies, the La Liga title and he was crowned the 2018 Ballon d’Or after his success with Madrid and helping Croatia reach the World Cup finals.
