Douglas Luiz has posted on his Instagram ‘never give up’, with the Aston Villa midfield star yet to sign a new contract with the club.
Whilst one Villa midfielder, whose contract is also due to expire next summer in Carney Chukwuemeka, was left at home for the club’s pre-season tour of Australia, their South American star was well and truly present down under.
Given that Steven Gerrard has taken the stance to continually play Luiz, and not Chukwuemeka, then it’s pretty clear he is happy with what he is getting from one individual, but not the other.
Boubacar Kamara was added to Villa’s books this summer, as the defensive-minded midfielder will now play the role that Luiz has deployed over the years.
Will that affect the player’s call when deciding on whether to stays or go? Well, time will tell, as the Brazil international sent the following message on his IG.
LUIZ IS BETTER SUITED FURTHER FORWARD
A technical player, who can work in tight spaces, he has a bit of flair about him and aggression without the ball, Luiz is better suited to playing further forward in Villa colours.
But he hasn’t been handed that chance because the player himself and Marvelous Nakamba have been deployed to be the defensive machines in the middle of the park.
However, with Kamara now in the building, it will be great to see how all of this works out for Luiz because he might just thrive with the Frenchman sitting behind him.
The player is popular in the dressing room and with the fans, but those in the B6 boardroom need to get tough and get him to sign a new deal or leave for a transfer this summer.
The Villa Park faithful would more than likely agree that he should sign a new deal, but if he doesn’t, then it’s not exactly great business losing a player, set to hit the peak of his powers, for nothing next summer.
