Aston Villa may be one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window.
The Midlands club were reportedly prepared to give Mauricio Pochettino £100m to spend if he took the job after Steven Gerrard was sacked, and one has to imagine that Unai Emery will be backed to a similar degree.
If Villa are to go out and spend in January then Emery is likely to have a big say in who is brought in, and he may go back to a player he knows very well.
Indeed, one has to imagine that Giovani Lo Celso could be on Emery’s radar in January.
Emery has signed the Argentine on multiple occasions during his career. He brought him to PSG back in 2016, while he signed him on loan for Villarreal on two occasions – including in this summer transfer window.

Lo Celso is currently on loan at Villarreal, but he may well be on the market in January as Spurs have a clause in place that will allow them to cancel the loan and sell the player on – as shared by Alasdair Gold on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast.
“Giovani Lo Celso. Spurs have that clause in there, if they were to get an offer from another club, so that’s a potential one to watch. I guess that comes to finances then, but Lo Celso would have to agree to it, so if he wants to stay at Villarreal it’s up to him,” Gold said.
Given that Emery loves Lo Celso and the Argentine has a point to prove in the Premier League, it’s fair to say that this is a move that could make a lot of sense.
Midfield additions may not be Villa’s top priority heading into January, but if a move for Lo Celso is on the table, you best believe that Emery will look into it.
