Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has delivered a worrying message regarding his January transfer plans.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has said that he doesn’t have funds to bring in new players in the January transfer window.
The Villans are seventh in the Championship, only six points behind fourth placed Cardiff City, and are expected to provide a strong challenge for promotion in the second half of the season.
Bruce has mentioned that he would love to buy a centre-forward in the January transfer window, but he can’t do it at the moment.
He says that all he can do is to put his trust on the current crop of players, and get the best out of them.
What has been more frustrating for him is that the Villa squad is down to bare bones with nine senior players missing at the moment with injuries.
With money not available for further reinforcement, Bruce will have to wheel and deal this month, if he is to bring in new players.
Villa should target the loan market as many Premier League players could be willing to play in the Championship in order to get regular games.
“We’re down to the bare bones, without nine senior players, and we’ve got a lack of real firepower at the moment,” said Bruce as quoted by the Mirror (printed edition; 01/01/2018 – page 18).
“I’d love to sit here and say a club like ours should be trying to buy a centre-forward in this window, but we certainly can’t do it. We’ve got some good young players here to call on, and we’ve got to go with what we’ve got.”
