Aston Villa winger Yannick Bolasie has applauded West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle after the Newcastle United loanee scored a superb free-kick for the Baggies against Preston.

Gayle joined West Brom on loan in a deal that has seen Salomon Rondon join Newcastle United, and has since starred for Darren Moore’s side. The 27-year-old has scored five and created five in eight Championship appearances.

West Brom’s 3-2 win over Preston, in which Gayle scored the winner, has seen the Baggies move to the top of the Championship table – toppling previous leaders Leeds United.

Gayle posted on Instagram after the match and Bolasie put rivalry between Villa and West Brom aside to applaud Gayle, by commenting on the post: “flying”.

Bolasie joined Villa this summer in the dying moments of the transfer window, leaving Premier League side Everton to join Steve Bruce’s outfit on loan. He has since made four sub appearances, scoring once against Rotherham United.

Villa have struggled this season and the promotion contenders sit way down in 15th place. They are in action against Preston next, before the Baggies and Villa do battle on December 8.
