The 2022 World Cup is over, and there were some absolutely heroic performances to savour.
Lionel Messi was the Player of the Tournament after leading Argentina to their third title, Kylian Mbappe became the second player ever to score a hat-trick in the final, while Luka Modric proved, once again, that father time simply can’t catch him.
However, for every hero there is a zero, and that’s where Lequipe’s Worst Team of the Tournament comes in.
The French newspaper are famous for being incredibly harsh with their player ratings, and they’ve made some rather controversial selections here.
Indeed, their Worst Team of the Tournament has now been published, and, for some reason, there’s a place in there for Matty Cash.

Now, we’re not going to pretend as though Cash was amazing in Qatar, but he certainly wasn’t the worst right-back at the World Cup.
In fact, he handled Kylian Mbappe quite well for around 70 minutes during Poland’s game against France, while he earned plaudits from Rio Ferdinand for his performances against Mexico.
Of course, this is just an opinion, but Lequipe are renowned for their ability to rate a player’s game more accurately than most, so to see Cash in their worst team is something of a surprise.
While Cash was in the Worst Team of the Tournament, another Aston Villa player was the star of the show in the final as Emi Martinez won Argentina their third World Cup with his heroics in the penalty shootout on Sunday.
