Aston Villa striker has given a surprisingly positive assessment of his first season in England and is waiting to see what God has in store amid reports of a transfer away from Villa Park.
Speaking to the Ghanaian TV channel GH One, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail, Ayew said he thought he had ‘done well’ despite Villa’s relegation from the Premier League.
Villa paid a reported £12 million (Eurosport) to sign the 24-year-old from Lorient last summer, but only seven goals arrived in 30 top flight appearances.
Despite this, Ayew is said to be courting interest from Premier League sides Bournemouth (Daily Mail) and West Ham United (also Mail).
And the Ghanaian admitted to being unsure of his Villa Park future.
“If there are rumours out there I don’t know of anything. I told my agent not to tell me anything,” he said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
“For my first year in England, I think I did well.
“For now, I’m still a Villa player. We’ll see what God has for me (in next month).”
Ayew’s Villa career could be under threat if the club is successful in its search for a new centre-forward this summer.
West Brom’s Rickie Lambert (Birmingham Mail) and Fulham’s Ross McCormack (Get West London) are two of the most notable linked with moves to Villa Park, though another target, Dwight Gayle, has a agreed to sign for Newcastle United from Crystal Palace, according to HITC sources.
