Aston Villa are set to sign Ludwig Augustinsson having set up a deal to take the Sevilla left back on loan as competition for Lucas Digne.
Villa got some important business done very early in the window by securing Philippe Coutinho permanently and then splashing out on Sevilla defender Diego Carlos.
Boubacar Kamara is in on a free transfer from Marseille, Robin Olsen has joined permanently from Roma and Rangers teenager Rory Wilson has arrived.
Villa still want more new signings for Steven Gerrard though and it looks like another one is close.
Aston Villa are set to sign Ludwig Augustinsson
Villa have already struck one deal with Sevilla this summer by signing defender Carlos and it seems that they have called up the Spanish club again.
Mucho Deporte reported on Saturday that Villa were in talks over a loan deal for Sevilla left back Augustinsson, which would have cost €500,000 (£425,000).
Fabrizio Romano has now added to those reports, taking to Twitter to claim that Villa now have an agreement in place with Sevilla.
The terms are a loan deal with an option to buy, though there are still some details to be resolved with Augustinsson himself.
Augustinsson, 28, joined Sevilla last summer as he moved on from Werder Bremen following their relegation from the Bundesliga.
Augustinsson only started nine La Liga games last season and is now ready to leave.
A Sweden international with 46 caps to his name, Augustinsson will offer real competition for Lucas Digne in the Villa side.
It’s also worth pointing out the influence of Johan Lange here.
Lange was FC Copenhagen’s technical director during Augustinsson’s time at the club and he will have surely been a driving force for this deal.
Lange was also behind the signing of Olsen, who has played alongside Augustinsson at Copenhagen and with the Swedish national team.
This deal won’t quite make headlines like Coutinho, but it looks to be a solid move to add depth to Villa’s squad.
