Aston Villa loanee Ross McCormack was dropped from Melbourne City’s squad against Brisbane Roar last Friday because he turned up late for training, according to reports from Australia.

The Herald Sun, as per the Express & Star, reported that 31-year-old striker McCormack had failed to report on time to training with Warren Joyce’s side and that saw him miss out.

Melbourne had already rested Australia legend Tim Cahill due to his exploits with the national side, leaving former Wigan boss Joyce without a recognised striker and it showed against the Roar – who defeated City 3-1.

The report does claim that City’s number 44 will be back in contention for their next match against Perth Glory on Friday, that being said, if the Scotland international can turn up to training on time this week.

Former Leeds United and Fulham star McCormack has rediscovered his goalscoring form down under, scoring four goals in six games for his loan side.

The Villa forward is contracted to the club until January but has spoke about extending that deal and could do so in the near future, unless Steve Bruce opts to bring him back to the Midlands.

Jonathan Kodjia, Scott Hogan and Gabriel Agbonlahor are all sidelined at the moment through injury, leaving only teenager Keinan Davis to lead the line and that could tempt Bruce into recalling McCormack in January.
