Aston Villa loanee Axel Tuanzebe drops hint over his future

Axel Tuanzebe has dropped a hint over his future as he continues to impress at Aston Villa.

Axel Tuanzebe has told Manchester United’s official website that he is hoping that his loan spell at Aston Villa gives him a better chance of making the grade at Old Trafford.

Tuanzebe is back with the Villans for a second loan spell after joining initially in January. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, his first stint in the Midlands failed to ignite and he only made a handful of appearances for the club, largely due to injury.

He returned in the summer however, and has been much more impressive this time around. Tuanzebe has made 14 Championship appearances for Villa and has become an important part of the side, particularly at centre-back alongside James Chester.

Some Villa fans may be hoping that the challenge in front of him when he returns to his parent club tempts Tuanzebe to push for a permanent deal further down the line.

But, although he may feel differently by the time the season concludes, Tuanzebe’s response when asked whether Villa are the perfect club to help prepare him for United hints that the Championship side have a tall order on their hands if they hope to keep him.

“Villa is an amazing club filled with amazing people so, for me, the journey has been positive. I feel like it will only improve and hopefully lead me back to Manchester, where I will want to play week in and week out,” he told Manchester United’s official website.

It would be no surprise if Dean Smith did want to keep Tuanzebe beyond this season, ideally on a permanent basis. He has been an excellent addition to the team this term and he has the potential to get significantly better in the coming years.

But with the defender clearly eyeing a future at Manchester United, Smith may be hoping that Jose Mourinho looks to sign a number of defenders in the near future to block his path in a way that makes the youngster rethink his plans.
