Jordan Veretout failed to impress for Aston Villa last season, and regrets not moving to Leicester City last summer.
Aston Villa loanee Jordan Veretout explained how he should have chosen to join Leicester City rather than the Villans last summer, during an exclusive interview with France Football, and quoted Sport Witness.
The 23-year-old midfielder failed to establish himself at Villa Park, following his £8 million move from Nantes last summer, and was swiftly moved out on loan to Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne during this summer transfer window.
Jordan Veretout in action for Aston Villa
Veretout was speaking to French publication France Football, and shared his regret at not choosing last season’s Premier League champions over Villa, as quoted by Sport Witness:
“Would I have signed if Leicester had called first? Yes, but I didn’t have enough time to think about it. I should have chosen based on the manager. Ranieri knew me, wanted me. Aston Villa’s didn’t, he didn’t know me. It was complicated. There you have it. It’s that kind of thing that helps you mature.”
The Frenchman’s words will not endear him to the Villa fans, who have been growing impatient with his continual disparaging rhetoric regarding the Midlands outfit.

The midfielder has hardly been pulling up trees during his loan stint in Frnace, with one goal and one assist in 12 outings since making the move across the English Channel in August.
With Steve Bruce now in charge at Villa Park, it is unlikely that a route back will be offered to Veretout, with the former Hull City boss renowned for his preference of hard working British-based players.
With a new era well and truly underway at Villa, they most certainly do not need characters of Veretout’s ilk disrupting what has the potential to be a strong team bond under Bruce.
The Frenchman’s days in the Midlands already appeared to be numbered, and his recent remarks will only reinforce that notion.
