It’s been a tough year, with last term’s heartbreaking Championship playoff final defeat, the summer’s financial issues and the difficult start to the present campaign.
But with new owners on board and Dean Smith steering his side up the table and within reach of the playoffs, there’s much scope for optimism heading into 2019.
As an added boost this season, last season’s defensive hero John Terry is now a coach at Villa Park, while Tammy Abraham is smashing the goals in.
Both Terry and Abraham have Chelsea connections, the former one of the Blues’ all-time legends and the latter on the books at Stamford Bridge.
As part of the Villa website’s One on One Series, Abraham was interviewed by the club on a number of subjects earlier this week, such as his favourite goal so far and what he thought about his manager.
One question related to his thoughts on Terry and the young forward admitted that it felt strange seeing one of Chelsea’s iconic players now at Villa in a coaching capacity – but at the same time hailed his work so far.
“It’s still weird seeing him as a coach, I’ve got to be honest,” said Abraham. “But I think he’s made a great start.
“He encourages everyone. He’s a great presence around the training ground and sets very, very high standards. You can’t underestimate that. Everyone looks up to John Terry.”
