Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott will be one hell of a player if he can learn more from Aguero – suitors Aston Villa will hope he can.

If Jack Marriott proves to be one fraction of the player his idol has turned out to be, he would be a superb addition for Aston Villa, Sunderland or Queens Park Rangers.

According to The Mail, the Championship trio are all keeping a close eye on the Peterborough United striker ahead of the January transfer window and with good reason. They all need a striker and there are few in the Football League in more impressive form than Marriott.

Since moving to London Road from Luton Town in the summer, the quicksilver striker has netted 17 times in 30 games in all competitions – form that has The Posh valuing him at £2.5 million.

Blessed with a low centre of gratuity, natural pace and a quick, instinctive shot, you can certainly see the comparisons between Marriott and the player he has grown up trying to copy – one Sergio Aguero.

“He’s just a genius. I love watching him play. The way he plays is unbelievable,” Marriott told the Daily Mail of the Argentine striker, who recently became the top scorer in Manchester City’s history.

“We’re both quite small so there’s not many strikers I’d be able to model my game on. I love watching clips of him and I love watching things that he does.”

It’s fair to say there’s quite the gulf in class between Marriott and Aguero, the two time Premier League champion who is without doubt one of the most fearsome strikers of the modern era with 132 goals in 193 league games for City under his belt.

But you can see why Villa would want Marriott on the evidence of this season, particularly with Jonathan Kodjia injured, Scott Hogan struggling for form and Keinan Davis yet to add reliable goalscoring to his various other attributes.
