Aston Villa’s summer overhaul could see them make the shock decision to sell winger Leon Bailey just a year after signing him.

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Villa are now looking to offload a whole host of players to help Steven Gerrard’s overhaul.

It’s stated that Villa will consider bids for Bailey should they arrive this summer in what would be a shock turn of events.

When Villa sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City last summer, the focus was on arrivals like Emi Buendia and Bailey.

Villa splashed a huge fee of around £30million on Bailey, raiding Bayer Leverkusen for their rapid winger.

Many expected Bailey for Premier League stardom with Villa having long been linked with a huge move to England on numerous occasions.

Sadly for Bailey and Villa, we just haven’t really seen him shine during his time at Villa Park.

Bailey has only managed five league starts and 11 substitute appearances with niggling injuries proving to be a recurring problem.

Fans will remember Bailey coming on againsT Everton back in September and making a huge impact before going off injured.

That’s kind of been the story for Bailey; moments of promise but failing to string anything consistent together.

After a quiet 90 minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bailey was only given 20 minutes against Tottenham on Saturday.

Gerrard suggested in February that Bailey is a ‘fantastic player’ but admitted he needed to see more of it after his battle with injuries.

It may well be that Gerrard now feels Bailey just can’t be relied upon over a full season and Villa may be better off recouping their cash.

Whilst Bailey may not be for sale per se, he could be available should anybody come calling this summer.
