Aston Villa legend Paul McGrath sends emotional Twitter message

The former Villa defender appears seriously concerned about the club’s poor lack of form going into Saturday’s Championship game with Hull.

Aston Villa legend Paul McGrath has taken to Twitter to send a message of support to manager Dean Smith ahead of Saturday’s Championship game against Hull City.

The Villans are not having the best of times at present, having won just one of their last eight games, and currently sit 12th in the table.

Hull, meanwhile, start the day in 10th, four points off a playoff place, after their run of six straight league wins – the club’s best run in 14 years – got them away from the drop zone.

There are other pressing issues for Villa going into the game, such as the fact they have conceded more home goals than any other side in the Championship this season (24 in 13 games according to BBC Sport).

McGrath, who played for Villa between 1989 and 1996, sent an emotional tweet ahead of the game in which he said Smith deserves and needs the team to give it their all and even wished he was young enough to take to the pitch for him:
