Aston Villa have reportedly made a bid for Said Benrahma ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Unsurprisingly, Dean Smith is wasting little time getting stuck into the transfer market ahead of Aston Villa’s return to the Premier League, with Sky Sports reporting that the Villans have already had a bid for Said Benrahma rejected.
Smith’s former club Brentford are understandably planning to not make it easy for any side to take Benrahma this summer, with Sky Sports reporting that it would take a huge offer for the Bees to consider selling.
It remains to be seen if Villa decide to meet Brentford’s demands. But if they do manage to sign the winger, it would have to go down as a fantastic coup for the top flight newbies given recent reports concerning Benrahma’s future.
TEAMtalk reported in March that both Tottenham and Arsenal want to sign the Algeria international, but Brentford are set to demand £30 million for the 23-year-old, who headed to Griffin Park during Smith’s tenure.
If Brentford still want a fee around that amount and the likes of Spurs and the Gunners are still in the race for his signature, it would be an outstanding statement from Villa to pull off a deal during the coming months.
Villa are the kind of club that do not need to make major statements in the market upon promotion to prove that they are a big club. But given the reported asking price and the stature of the clubs also interested in Benrahma, Villa winning the race would perhaps be another excellent way to mark their return to England’s top table.
