Joao Pedro is something of a late bloomer having previously spent mixed spells with Atletico Mineiro, Palermo, Vitoria Guimaraes, Penarol, Santos and Estoril.
Yet since making a 2014 move to Cagliari, Joao Pedro has become a star in Italy.
The 29-year-old Brazilian has turned out 248 games for Cagliari, registering 81 goals and 27 assists.
Primarily a number 10, Joao Pedro has excelled in Italy and already has eight goals this season.
Branded a ‘leader’ by Cagliari boss Walter Mazzarri, Joao Pedro may be the type of character Gerrard wants at Villa.
