Aston Villa are chasing James Tarkowski – and Steven Gerrard thinks there isn’t a better deal to be done during this summer’s transfer window.

Villa have already secured one signing by announcing the addition of Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille.

Steven Gerrard is seeking major reinforcements this summer having seen Villa’s season peter out to a rather dull end.

Gerrard obviously wants to take Villa forward and he will need some major additions to make that happen.

Signing the out-of-contract Kamara may be a sign of things to come as Villa target another free agent in Tarkowski.

Aston Villa are chasing James Tarkowski

Tarkowski is out of contract this summer and is leaving Burnley for free.

There was little chance of Tarwokwski staying at Burnley anyway, but that is now almost impossible with the Clarets relegated.

Tarkowski will have plenty of Premier League offers and Villa are making their move.

The Daily Mail claim that Villa are making a huge £120,000-a-week offer to make sure Tarkowski joins them.

Everton are offering £90,000-a-week and Villa are pulling out all the stops to sign the defender.

The Mirror even add that Gerrard is adamant that Tarkowski is the signing of the summer on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old has bags of Premier League experience and Gerrard seemingly feels he is an absolute bargain.

Gerrard has told Villa to ‘move heaven and earth’ to sign Tarkowski, seemingly making the Burnley man his top defensive target.

The increased money on offer at Villa may make them more appealing than Everton to Tarkowski.

Yet as a Manchester lad, you can’t overlook the possibility that Tarkowski would want to stay in the North West.

This looks to be a major battle for Tarkowski, and Villa could make a dream start to the window by securing him and Kamara on free transfers.
