They have just lost 3-0 to fellow Championship outfit Swansea City and their best player – Tammy Abraham – looks likely to cut his loan short to join Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It’s a worrying period for Aston Villa, but Scott Hogan had the chance to ease some fears.
With Abraham seemingly on the way out, Hogan had the chance to show Villa fans that he could replace the Chelsea-owned hitman.
But it’s fair to say that the Irish striker, a £9 million addition two years ago [ESPN], let the opportunity pass him by in the drubbing by Swansea.
The former Brentford marksman had an afternoon to forget and fluffed two good chances to score.
Other than that, it was a quiet afternoon for him and some might say a worrying preview of Aston Villa’s attack if he is the man to replace Abraham up top.
Replacing the 16-goal marksman will be very difficult, but replace him they must if Hogan – and Kodjia to a lesser extent – is the alternative.
