Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs.
Aston Villa are doing everything in their power to earn promotion back to the Premier League as previous attempts have ended in near disaster.
In the summer, the club was on the brink of financial capitulation after losing the playoff final to Fulham in May, which saw manager Steve Bruce lose his job five months later.
Since that summer of chaos, it seems Villa’s new hierarchy have not learnt the lessons from the previous regime as they once again aim for the quick fix tactic of earning promotion.
The Mirror claimed on Sunday that Villa are interested in signing Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs on loan until the end of the season – Neil Taylor is the only bonafide fullback in that position.
Adding the Premier League winner to Villa’s squad will only bring more problems to the club if they fail to earn promotion – as the club witnessed in the summer.
Financial problems played their part but the likes of Sam Johnstone, Lewis Grabban, Robert Snodgrass and even John Terry didn’t return to the club and Villa had to rebuild on the pitch once again.
In six months time, if Villa are still in the Championship then the same issues will arise because a number of first-team players, Axel Tuanzebe, Yannick Bolasie, Tammy Abraham and Anwar El Ghazi will return to their parent clubs.
Then the recycle will begin once again because a new crop of players will be added, they will have to gel in and Villa will have to rebuild again.
Rather than signing short-term solutions in Fuchs, the club is better off adding permanent additions to the squad, even if they are youngsters.
The reason being, the club can then look more towards the medium-to-long-term and build a stable platform for promotion rather than a platform which is going to be removed after every summer.
