Aston Villa hero Ian Taylor has taken to Twitter to offer his view on the club’s decision to part ways with manager Roberto Di Matteo.
Having been relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, Villa and their new owner Tony Xia decided to bring in Di Matteo as the man to reverse the club’s fortunes.

With a Championship promotion to his name with West Bromwich Albion and a shock Champions League title with Chelsea, Di Matteo was a calculated gamble for Villa – but it didn’t work.
Di Matteo won just one of his 11 Championship games in charge, and lost his job after just 124 days in charge on Monday, having seen his side lose 2-0 at Preston North End on Saturday.

Many have seen Di Matteo’s exit as a rash decision by Villa, with some emphasising the need for time given Villa’s need to rebuild following relegation from the top flight.
However, Villa’s tendency to throw points away means that Di Matteo was hanging by a thread even before taking on Preston, and having been thoroughly outclassed and outfought at Deepdale, it was no surprise to see him lose his job.

Many former Villa players have had their say on Di Matteo’s departure, and now, club hero Ian Taylor has taken to Twitter to offer his view.
Taylor believes that whilst Di Matteo’s results simply weren’t good enough, the way Villa were bullied off the park by Preston showed why Villa are lagging behind right now, with Taylor also sending a message to the players, urging them to fight more.
