Aston Villa have made former Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp’s prediction about them earlier this season look very foolish now.

Redknapp suggested back in September that Birmingham had a better squad than Villa.

And the former Blues boss even went as far to suggest that Birmingham would finish above Steve Bruce’s side this campaign.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Cardiff City at Villa Park on November 26, 2016 in Birmingham, England.

He said to the Birmingham Mail: “I know there is a lot of Villa and West Brom fans who don’t like Birmingham, but I’ll tell you one thing, Birmingham will not be far away from making the play-offs this year.

“They’ve got five of their best players not playing.

“I think when Birmingham get everybody fit they’ll finish above Villa this year for sure.”

Redknapp’s prediction is already guaranteed to be wrong, as Birmingham can no longer mathematically catch Villa.

The Blues have struggled badly this campaign, and are still battling against relegation, rather than competing for promotion.

Birmingham have recently sacked Redknapp’s successor, Steve Cotterill, and they are two points away from safety as things stand.

Villa, meanwhile, are gunning for automatic promotion, as they look to return to the Premier League.

The claret and blues are in third place in the Championship table, and they are just four points behind Cardiff City in second place.
