Leeds are determined to see off Aston Villa’s interest in Kalvin Phillips

Leeds United are reportedly set to reject an offer of £14 million from Aston Villa for Kalvin Phillips, The Telegraph report.
The view is, that Phillips is too important to Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa for the club to sanction a sale, even at £14 million, twice what the club sold Ronaldo Vieira for last summer.
It would be a bad sale for Leeds given what Phillips brings to the side, and how they are ‘all in’ on promotion this year.
Bielsa extended his contract for this season, after some deliberation. It’s unclear if he would consider a third stint in the Championship if Leeds fail again.
So Leeds are gambling on this campaign being successful. Villa’s bid for Phillips raises the stakes.

If they can hold onto him this year, they probably won’t be able to resist a big offer for him next summer.
Phillips will have an extra season under his belt, be a year closer to the expiration of his contract, and will start to think about his own prospects of playing in the Premier League. Offers will be likely.
Villa’s offer is a stark reminder that Leeds cannot hold him back forever if they cannot accomplish their goals. Promotion this season is an absolute must.
