Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move elsewhere in the January transfer window.
Aston Villa appear to have received a potential boost as they look to keep Tammy Abraham beyond January, with The Sun on Sunday (23/12; page 61) reporting that wages could scupper his chances of getting a permanent move elsewhere.
Abraham has been superb during his time with the Villans. The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals in just 16 Championship appearances, including eight in his last six games.
There is a chance however, that his form may cost Villa when the window opens next month, as he appears to be attracting interest and parent club Chelsea could be tempted to sell him.
But The Sun on Sunday (23/12; page 61) reports that Abraham is earning £55,000-a-week plus incentives with Villa, and those wages are putting potential admirers off making a move for the striker.
It would be fantastic for Dean Smith to be able to keep Abraham for the rest of the season, and perhaps beyond. Only West Brom have outscored Villa this term, and Abraham’s performances are a key reason for their success.
And if Smith can ensure that the defence improves over the coming months, then Abraham’s goals will surely fire Villa right into the promotion mix.
Replacing him in January would be an extremely difficult task. But perhaps this latest report hints that it is looking more likely that he will be staying put.
