The goalkeeper was set to push for a loan move in 2017.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer has been dealt a massive blow after being ruled out for several months with a serious Achilles problem.
The talented stopper was third-choice at Villa behind Mark Bunn and Pierluigi Gollini but was still considered a vital member of the Villa first-team.
Charlton’s Simon Makienok and Huddersfield’s Jed Steer in action
The Mirror reports that he is now set for a sizeable chunk of time out of action for Villa. They also claim that Steer had been pushing for a January loan exit to continue his development and get some first-team football. Unfortunately this injury problem has put paid to those plans.
Steer spent last season on loan at Huddersfield Town in the Championship and had a great campaign with the Terriers, which saw many tipping him for Aston Villa first-team football this season.
Aston Villa’s Jed Steer during the warm up
Unfortunately, it is now clear that will not be the case for some time.
Villa are said to be looking into the possibility of signing another keeper this winter which would push a now crocked Steer even further down the pecking order at Villa Park.
It might just be that Steer’s career is not going to profit from staying at Aston Villa in the long-term.
