Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is interested in the Aston Villa job – and the Premier League club have started doing checks on his backroom staff.
That’s according to a report from The Telegraph, who claim that Gerrard could be tempted away from Ibrox after all.
It’s stated that Gerrard’s Rangers contract, which runs until 2024, has a £2million release clause included.
That fee is no problem to Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, who could now move to make Gerrard the next Villa boss.
Villa have now started making background checks not just on Gerrard, but also on his potential coaching staff at Villa Park.
It’s noted that Villa would likely move for Gary McAllister and Michael Beale if Gerrard accepts the job.
Beale and McAllister have worked with Gerrard at Rangers, so they could be two men Villa are researching.

Villa do already have knowledge of McAllister assisted Gerard Houllier during his stint in charge of the club.
Add in fitness coach Jordan Milsom and technical coach Tom Culshaw, and Gerrard could bring a number of men with him.
This deal isn’t done by any means, but it seems that Villa have been given encouraging signs – so much so that they’re making plans for Gerrard’s coaching staff.
